The European Tour is creating a new made-for-TV competition that will show how its players and celebrities handle pressure-packed putts.
Dubbed the ISPS Handa Pressure Putt Showdown, the competition series, which will begin at the BMW PGA Championship on May 25, will pair eight European Tour pros with celebrities in a contest centered around a classic putting green drill. The rules are simple: Both players on a team will start by trying to make a 3-foot putt. If one of them does, they move on to the next round which is another foot away from the hole. The competition will go on, backing up foot-by-foot and eliminating teams which fail to have one of the partners make the putt. Meanwhile, music and audience participation will add more difficulty to each round.
The last team standing will score a £10,000 prize which will be donated to charity.
Three more events are scheduled to host these contests: the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, the British Masters and another still to be determined.
