Oakmont C.C., near Pittsburgh, hosts the U.S. Open for the ninth time in June. It's one of a few courses in the country that could hold on Open on very short notice, primarily because the club prides itself on its extremely fast greens and firm surfaces throughout the course.
Some of the media got to experience that firsthand on Tuesday during U.S. Open Media Day, playing the championship course a little more than a month.

Check out this video from Guy Cipriano of Golf Course Industry magazine, showing him using putter to reach the green at the first hole from 118 yards out. He reads the break pretty darn well, getting the ball -- eventually -- onto the putting surface, though it looks like it was about to roll off in the end. Maybe a little more out to the right.
This might be something a few of the players in the U.S. Open field will want to watch just so they know they have an option to reach and maybe hold some of golf's most difficult greens.
