Royal Sydney Golf Club to host 2016 Australian Open as part of new rota

Royal Sydney Golf Club will host the 2016 Australian Open, Golf Australia announced during Sunday's final round.

The club last hosted Australia's oldest golf tournament in 2013, when Rory McIlroy defeated Adam Scott on the 72nd hole to deny the former world No. 1 the single-year Aussie Triple Crown, winning its three biggest golf events, including the Open, the Australian PGA Championship and the Australian Masters.

As part of an eight-year deal signed with the New South Wales government to keep the tournament in the province, a four-course rotation was established, including this year's host The Australian Golf Club, New South Wales Golf Club and The Lakes Golf Club.

Golf Australia did not announce dates for the 2016 tournament.

Matt Jones won the 2015 and 100th Australian Open on Sunday at his home club, besting world No. 1 and defending champion Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott by a shot. Both Spieth and McIlroy, the tournament's last two winners, went on to win multiple majors in the year following their Australian Open victories.
