Yuta Sugiura shot 12-under 58 in the third round of the Korn Ferry Tour's Compliance Solutions Championship at The Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Oklahoma, near Tulsa.
Sugiura, already a winner this year at the AdventHealth Championship, moved up to 17-under total through three rounds of the penultimate event in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, the culminating four-event series on the schedule.
The Japanese-born player came into the week ranked No. 21 in the Korn Ferry Tour points standings, with the top 20 players after next week's Korn Ferry Tour Championship earning PGA Tour cards for the 2027 season.
This is the third time that a player has shot 58 in Korn Ferry Tour history, following such rounds from Stephan Jaeger and Frankie Capan III. The all-time low round on the Korn Ferry Tour and on a major professional tour is 57, shot by Cristobal del Sol in Chile in February 2024.
All told, the Korn Ferry Tour has the highest share of sub-60 rounds in professional golf history, with approximately one-third of the 57 total rounds turned in below 60 in a tournament round. The LPGA Tour, by contrast, has just one 59 in tour history.
While Sugiura shot 58 in an incredible round, he had some company chasing a sub-60 round. Both points leader Ross Steelman and William Sides shot 60 during the day, while Robby Shelton shot 61.
The Saturday scoring average at The Patriot Golf Club was 65.5, meaning Sugiura gained 8.5 strokes on the day -- relatively low by strokes-gained standards for a sub-60 rounds.
However, this is a tournament where going low is of utmost importance. In last year's event, Adrien Dumont de Chassart won with a 72-hole total of 33-under 251, when the course was played as a par-71.
