Brooks Koepka withdrew from this week's 2026 Rocket Classic on Tuesday, changing the field for this week's PGA Tour event at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan.
Koepka was committed to the field at the tournament deadline, but he pulled out of the event on Tuesday. The PGA Tour told a local reporter that Koepka withdrew for personal reasons.
Now Koepka will not participate in the event, which expanded its field to accommodate him per his agreement with the Tour under the Returning Member Program.
Whatever the reason, Koepka's absence is a negative for the event, which is the last edition of this Michigan tournament, set to be replaced in 2027 by a new event in Napa, California, sponsored by insurer Sompo.
Koepka is in a precarious position to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs with just one event, the Wyndham Championship, remaining after this week. Heading into this week, Koepka is 84th in the FedEx Cup standings. The top 70 players after next week in North Carolina qualify for the first leg of the playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee.
Koepka is allowed to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs as part of his return agreement with the tour, but he is not allowed to earn any FedEx Cup bonus money this season. However, he can earn money from the tournament purses in the three playoff events, if he qualifies for them.
Cam Young remains favorite, with +1100 betting odds to win, while Chris Gotterup is second favorite at 18-to-1 as he seeks a fourth win this season.
