After 78 PGA Tour events over nearly four years, Scottie Scheffler will not play the weekend at a PGA Tour event he started.
Scheffler surprisingly missed the cut on Friday at the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open after the world No. 1 shot 2-over 72 in the second round to finish two rounds on even-par 140 and two shots out of the projected cut line.
"I didn't really feel like I played that bad. This golf course can be just tough at times," Scheffler said after the round.
The occasion marks the first time Scheffler has missed the weekend in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event since the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship during the FedEx Cup playoffs in Memphis.
Scheffler's streak was 51 events longer than the second-longest active streak, which now belongs to Matt Fitzpatrick. However, the 78-event run falls well short of Tiger Woods' PGA Tour consecutive cuts-made streak of 142, a run of nearly seven years.
Woods' streak was called into question as it was running through 2005 because the 82-time PGA Tour winner competed in some no-cut tournaments, with the dawn of the World Golf Championships and other occasional limited-field events. On the modern PGA Tour, in the era of Signature events, most of which have no cut at all, and FedEx Cup playoff events, all of which no longer have a cut, Scheffler's run, while impressive, is different.
"It's a little different now with some of the Signature events not having cuts," Scheffler said. "But you know, I don't think I finished outside of the top 20 or something like that many times this year.
He added, "I'm definitely proud of the consistency, and wish I had a couple days over the weekend to make up some ground."
Scheffler, in fact, was chasing another Woods record. The world No. 1 had finished in the top 25 in 35 straight PGA Tour events, three short of Tiger Woods' modern PGA Tour record of 38.
So, with his Saturday and Sunday open, what's Scheffler planning to do to prepare for his claret jug defense at The Open?
"A little different than I was planning," Scheffler said with a chuckle. "Figure out how I get down to Birkdale and go from there."
