Phil Mickelson played himself out of any kind of crazy weekend charge at the 2018 Masters on the very first hole in Saturday's third round, when he made a triple-bogey 7 to drop to 8-over total for the championship.

That triple bogey included a whiff. Mickelson's tee shot on the first hole was pulled to the right, and he found himself under a tree. Mickelson tried to hit a difficult low-running shot from the lie precariously close to a tree, and the three-time Masters champion whiffed on his first honest attempt at it.

Mickelson had to count the stroke. The Masters shot-tracker shows Mickelson was considered to hit the shot 1 yard.

The left-hander is playing with Tyrrell Hatton in Saturday's third round.
