The Secret Service is spending $13,500 on golf carts to make sure President Donald Trump, his family and administration are well protected as the 45th President spends 17 days at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., for a "working vacation" this August.
According to USA Today, the agency signed two purchase orders with a golf-cart rental company in New York, both worth $5,400. With taxes and other fees (presumably), that figure ends up at $13,500. That's not cheap. Depending on the model, weekly rates range from $500-$900 per cart, while monthly rates range from $750-$1,200 per cart.
This $13,500 bill -- part of the massive cost to American taxpayers the Trump administration is racking up for Trump's travels to his properties for golf and vacation -- is on top of the $35,185 on golf-cart rental contracts from the beginning of Trump's term when he spent most weekends in Florida at his Mar-a-Lago club.
So far in 2017, the Secret Service has spent $59,585 in golf cart rentals on large contracts. It's unclear, but it seems likely, that the Secret Service is also required to reimburse the Trump Administration for cart rentals each time Trump plays golf or visits one of his golf clubs for a day.
