Dustin Johnson has a new putter, and it's one very similar to the putter used by fellow TaylorMade staffer Jason Day.

After finishing T-41 in strokes gained putting at the Deustche Bank Championship, Johnson felt he was having trouble starting his putts on line. So, he asked the tour staff at TaylorMade to get him a couple of new putters to test. After using a version of the TaylorMade Spider Limited putter for four holes during the Wednesday pro-am, Johnson knew he had his choice.

"I messed around with it before, but, no, just I felt like last week and past few weeks I've just been struggling to get the putter on line, like the line that I was seeing," Johnson said Thursday. "And so yeah, [TaylorMade Tour rep Shawn Mullin] sent me one of those and I started rolling it and it felt pretty good. So I putted with it like the last four holes yesterday, because I didn't get it until like late in the round."

The Spider Limited is a take on the Itsy Bitsy Spider putter head that has been successful for Day and a favorite among amateurs.

With the Spider Limited, Johnson could choose from the all red body that Jason Day has used (actually called the Spider Limited Red) or a more subtle version with red weight ports set into a black body. Johnson went with the latter and is leading the BMW Championship field in strokes gained putting, ahead 5.66 strokes through the first two rounds.

TaylorMade is selling 15,000 Spider Limited putters at $220 each, while only 2,000 Spider Limited Red putters have been made available for $300 each. They're available only in 35-inch right-handed models.
