Breanna Elliott may wind up starting a trend in golf. The Australian, sporting green hair, won the Symetra Tour's Fuccillo Kia Championship on Sunday for her first win on the developmental circuit.
A final-round, 2-under 69 was enough for Elliott to win by a shot over Augusta James and Fiona Puyo.
“This is so sweet, I am so pumped and this is just unbelievable,” said Elliott, who moved up from 78th to 23rd on the tour's money list. “I’m so happy right now, this is what I have been working for and this is huge for me. This is the first step in the right direction. This is for my family back home, I know they are going to be celebrating tonight.”
The Aussie decided to dye her hair green ahead of the U.S. Women's Open, where she missed the cut, but gained confidence playing with big crowds watching as she was alongside the likes of Michelle Wie at Lancaster Country Club.
It was probably the major experience that sparked the good form, but Elliott can't rule out the dye job.
“This green hair should be permanent, I feel like it is paying off big time for me,” she said afterward. “I had no idea when I did it that it was going to be a huge hit, but I love it and everyone will have to get used to me in green hair from now on.”
