Barbasol Championship will play with less than a full field

The inaugural Barbasol Championship will be played this weekend on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama, but it won't do so with a full field.

The tournament, which allows a maximum of 132 players, will go off one player shy of that total on Thursday, and it was a challenge even to get to that number. A slew of players withdrew from the field, including Tom Gillis, who earned a spot in the Open Championship by virtue of his finish at the John Deere Classic. The PGA Tour went through all of the alternates to help fill the field, and that still wasn't enough.

A pair of players, Doug LaBelle II and Peter Malnati, got into the field from the rarely used exemption category "The Next 50 Finishers Beyond No. 150 on Prior Season's Money List thru the Wyndham Championship."
