Wilson Staff sees golfers in three categories: feel, control and distance. As you might guess, the distance player needs to add some yards, but also desires to be more accurate and wants a golf club that inspires confidence.
The D200 series of drivers, fairway woods and hybrids are what Wilson Staff believes will meet all of those must-haves.
The family of clubs feature what the company calls Right Light technology, which moves the mass of a reduced-weight club to get the right blend of forgiveness and distance. The idea's a simple one: swinging a lighter club leads to more club head speed and, therefore, length.
Take, for example, the D200 driver. The face is thinner on the bottom half to get more distance on the most common of mishits. The crown is thickest near the club face for stability. And at just 268 grams, the driver is so light that it's hard not to pick up a few mphs. The player can also customize the club on the fly with an adjustable hosel offering three loft and three lie settings, all designed to encourage a left-to-right curve.
The D200 fairway woods and hybrids offer similar benefits through different, refined features. The face of the fairways is taller in the heel and toe areas, giving more hitting area to players who miss well off the center of the club face. The head on stronger-lofted hybrids is larger, making it more like a fairway wood.
The lineup:
- The D200 driver ($300) is available in 9-, 10.5- and 13-degree right-handed models. A 10.5-degree lefty head is available.
- D200 fairway woods ($250) come in 3- (15 degrees) 5- (18 degrees) and 7-wood (21 degrees) models. The 3- and 5-woods are available in left-handed models.
- D200 hybrids ($180) are available in a slew of lofts for both right- and left-handed players
