Arkansas St. golfer charged with sexual assault, dismissed from team

An Arkansas State University student has been dismissed from the school's golf team after being charged in Kentucky with first-degree sodomy involving a 15-year-old boy.

Dayton Jones, 20, was among five arrested Oct. 14, including two 19-year-olds and a pair of 17-year-olds. The incident occurred Oct. 12 at a home in Hopkinsville, Ky., was videotaped and shared among others with mobile phones. The victim, whose name was not released as he is a minor, is improving at a Tennessee hospital located a half-hour from Hopkinsville. Motive remains unclear, though all grew up in the area.

In addition to the sodomy charge, Jones faces additional charges of promoting a sexual performance by a minor, use of a minor in a sexual performance and distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

According to the Associated Press, the school dismissed Jones from the golf team pending the outcome of the investigation.
