Following up our fun, supersized Episode 107 with ESPN’s Lon McEachern, the “Voice of Poker” joins “Talking GolfGetaways” hosts Mitch Laurance and Darin Bunch for our latest quick-hitting golf-travel quiz, presented by 2UNDR.

Lon, a California native now living in El Dorado County, begins the episode by explaining why the courses on the Monterey Peninsula — most notably Pebble Beach — top his list of favorite destinations. And he follows up that fulfilled bucket-list item with a longing to play The Old Course in St. Andrews, visiting Bandon Dunes Resort and hitting the courses of Myrtle Beach (maybe even with Mitch) as future stops on his fantasy Bucket List itinerary.

Lon says he would love to return to his “Favorite Place to Stay” — the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita on the west coast of Mexico — and explains why a baguette with sausage, cheese and wine while covering the Tour de France for ESPN in Lourdes qualifies as the Best Thing He’s Eaten on a Golf Trip.

As a world traveler who's covered sports for most of his life, Lon details why he loves travel, saying he “hopes to be unrushed, to find an unexpected place, to watch how that part of the world works.”

What’s the one piece of golf equipment he can’t live without? A good ballmark repair tool, adding that he hates seeing unrepaired marks on a green — a sentiment to which most hardcore golf travelers can relate.

And when it comes the Most Interesting Person He’s Golfed With, Lon keeps it in the family, explaining why his son’s father-in-law Bill Davies fits the bill. Bored with playing right-handed, Bill trained himself to play from the other side, which just might make him Golf’s Most Interesting Man.

Lon offers the course at Yocha-De-He at Cache Creek Casino outside Sacramento, California (a highly-rated 2008 Brad Bell design) as the One Course He Wishes Everyone Knew About. And he ends his Emergency 9 with a great story about why a round at Cascata in Boulder City, Nevada, with Ryder Cup Captain Paul Azinger (who Lon met while doing a “World Series of Poker” telecast) qualifies as his Best Golf Story because it involves Zinger topping balls on the range as a pre-round warmup method.
