In this SuperSized Emergency 9 episode of “Talking GolfGetaways,” hosts Mitch Laurance and Darin Bunch delve deeply into the soul of Golf Photographer Extraordinaire Brian Oar (drink — please join our drinking game). It’s a truly in-depth session about Brian’s favorite courses, destinations, resorts, food and memories created during years of capturing some of the golf’s most magnificent playgrounds.

LISTEN to the show on audioBoom!

Brian talks about why Castle Stuart and Brora in the Scottish Highlands hold a special place in his heart, and why Cape Kidnappers (designed Tom Doak) in New Zealand, Cabot Cliffs (designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw) in Nova Scotia and Thracian Cliffs (designed by Gary Player) in Bulgaria are the stuff of his dreams.

Places to Stay? Kauai, San Diego and Cape Breton Island top his list (the hosts could never keep Brian to just “one” answer per question). And as far as food goes, both Oar and Bunch lapse into true reverie about Addison at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar in San Diego, with Brian calling it “pure bliss.”

Speaking of loves that Brian and Darin share — add Nexbelt to the list. The “belt with no holes” and a Batman-like secret compartment in the buckle (to hide your ballmark) has changed their lives, and neither is afraid to tell everyone about it. You might start calling them “Belt Brothers” after listening to this “Talking GolfGetaways.”

Along the way, Brian tells a few great golf-related stories, including an early morning at The Prairie Club in Nebraska when he risked his life (somewhat literally) to shoot what he considers his favorite golf-course photo of all-time. And when discussing the Favorite Golf Partner question, his answer takes a somewhat surprising family turn that includes golf-cart race tracks, bunnies, milkshakes, fries and his beloved grandmother who taught him the game of golf so many years ago.

It’s an episode filled with passion and fun — and that’s what makes each Emergency 9 special in its own unique way. Enjoy the conversation.
