A look at Tiger Woods’ hair over the years

After Tiger Woods' girlfriend, Lindsey Vonn, Instagrammed a picture of the couple at the Presidents Cup earlier in the week, there seems to be quite a bit of interest in Woods' hairline. It's a little thin up top for Tiger.

Rory McIlroy went out of his way last year to publicly rib his friend about the receding tide of hair.

Tiger Woods isn't there yet, though his father, Earl, was a bald man. Although it's said baldness comes from the mother's side. Or at least I remember that from an episode of "Seinfeld."

So, we decided to take a look at Woods' follicles over the years.

As a bald man, I can empathize. I started losing my hair at 15 (yeah, 15), and fought the good fight for about four years before I had to shave it down to the skull everyday. I'm a big advocate for men with thinning hair to simply bust out the razor and shave it everyday. There's no need for shampoo or hair products, but I sure do buy a lot of sunscreen.

We could do a similar hairography on Phil Mickelson, who kept his hair short for years before around the beginning of the 2006 season, when he decided to start growing his hair long -- almost like he was letting Tiger know he still had great locks. Now Mickelson's hair is downright out of control. Enjoy it while you can, however, Phil. You never know when your gene pool will betray you.

Some interesting facts about bald guys and success in golf:

  • The last bald guy to win a major championship? Stewart Cink at the 2009 Open Championship. Who did he beat? A nearly 60-year-old Tom Watson, whose hair is still pretty darned good.
  • Three bald guys have won the FedEx Cup: Vijay Singh in 2008, Jim Furyk in 2010 and Bill Haas in 2012.
  • The last bald guy to win on the PGA Tour? Bill Haas at the 2013 AT&T National.
