You've probably seen the wedges that Tour-trailer shops churn out for the best players in the world, as well the occasional V.I.P. They're custom and creative, and they're a form of personal expression that has typically been reserved for putters.
Now, Callaway Golf is bringing some of those designs direct to the mainstream golfer with its Tour Limited Wedge program. Each month, Callaway will offer a limited number of Roger Cleveland-designed wedges which will be fixed up by Anthony Taranto, who does the stamping, sand-blasting and paint-filling for Callaway's tour staff.
For November, Taranto has come up with a comic book-themed set of Mack Daddy wedges (52-degree MD3 S-grind, 56-degree PM grind, 60-degree PM grind) that will be sold together.
So, how much will these wedges cost? Well, you'll determine that, sort of. Callaway is using a blind auction to determine the prices, with the second-highest bid determining the price. For this month's set, the minimum bid is $650, and it goes up from there. The winner of the auction will be able to purchase the set for $1 more than the second-highest bid.
It's a unique idea, trying to get more golfers interested in some of the customizations that mesmerize so many online and in person.
