There had not been a hole-in-one on the island (peninsula) green par-3 17th at TPC Sawgrass since Miguel Angel Jimenez did it (with shorter hair than he has now) back in 2002. That was, until Friday at The Players Championship.

Will Wilcox ended that long ace-less streak with a 1 on the infamous short hole.

Wilcox, who is making his Players debut after earning his card last year, carded the first Players ace since Chris Stroud in the third round in 2013 on the 13th hole. This is the 27th ace in the history of The Players Championship.

The University of Alabama-Birmingham product was at 3 under for the championship before the shot, so the eagle 1 moves him to 5 under par and on the edge of striking distance of the lead.
