There have been plenty of times I've wished for nothing more than for it to be alright within the Rules of Golf to just pick up my ball and throw it at the hole, or just walk up to the cup, ball in hand, and drop it in the hole.
Well, now you can, kind of.
Las Vegas man John Mendonca has combined his love for golf with his love for drones in inventing a game called Drone Golf. The concept is pretty simple: At the start of each hole, a player equips a drone with a golf ball, flies it toward the specified hole on a driving range and, using the on-board camera, identifies a spot to drop the ball from the drone toward the hole. The closer the ball winds up to the hole, the better the score.
It's a game that could be done quickly, which is good. And there's some skill involved, which is good, too.
Mendoca said the game has been well received in his limited testing and has lofty goals for its future.
"I hope to have a professional drone golf association where people from all around the world can come to compete for prize money," Mendonca said, according to CBS 8 in Vegas.
