As 15-year-old Cole Hammer prepared to officially become the third-youngest U.S. Open contestant in history, the teen took a moment on his first tee to think about a dream he was about to fulfill. The kid looked like he was getting emotional, maybe even about to cry. But that wasn't the case.

In fact, Hammer Time was doing something he does before every round of golf: praying.

After Hammer shot 7-over 77 on Thursday at Chambers bay, he told the media about his routine.

“I was just praying,” he said. “I always pray right before my round on the first tee. That’s all I was doing.”

While he prays before each round, Hammer said he'd never experienced the mix of emotions he dealt with on the 10th tee.

“It was like nervous excitement,” he said. “I've never felt that feeling before.”

He'll get to feel that way again on Friday afternoon in Round 2, and, if he can make a miraculous rally, maybe over the weekend as well.
