There are plenty of little kids who can smash it off the tee. Three-year-old Tommy Morrissey is one of those talents who can hit a golf ball better than a lot of people 10 times his age. What makes Morrissey unique is that he does it with just one arm.
Morrissey, who was born in Juniper, Fla., was born without a right hand and the part of the arm under the elbow. He began playing at 18 months when he began to show interest in golf whenever his parents were watching it on TV. Plastic clubs became standard clubs, and Tommy hits the ball very well -- 100 yards with the driver.
“His true ability is to look and learn,” father Joe said to NBC Philadelphia. “I have given him very little instruction.”
The Morrisseys spend the summers on the Jersey shore and play golf at Linwood C.C. Director of golf Jeff LeFevre marvels at Tommy's ability.
“It’s such a difficult game with two hands, two arms,” LeFevre said. “And here we are, a 3-year-old with one arm with absolutely great rhythym, great set-up…truly, truly a golf prodigy.”
