V1 Sports is expanding its portfolio in golf, adding a new game performance-tracking subscription tool for players who are looking to track their on-course tendencies without committing to a platform and its hardware.
The company has announced the release of V1 Game, which is a mobile app designed to deliver the kinds of insights users have come to expect from the category's platforms -- minus the need for sensors and other hardware to track shots in real-time using GPS.
V1 Game can also act as a caddie, providing yardages to landmarks all over the course in a visual format. The app can either be used as a GPS, rendering aerial satellite views of holes to give distances to a variety of on-course landmarks. Rangefinder mode provides laser-like accuracy to specific landmarks in the viewfinder.
The golfer uses the app to say what club they hit, using the phone itself as an entry keypad to track that key component of performance-tracking. Users can also set specific pin placements on each green. Ultimately, the individual shot data is then used to show a golfer their strengths and weaknesses in aggregate, which will give them a plan of attack to improve.

Available stats include: strokes gained (broken down by skill level and shot type), shot patterns, club distances, scoring, greens in regulation (GIR), fairways in regulation (FIR), scrambling, putts per green, putts per GIR and estimated handicap.
Users can share the data through social networks, with friends and their instructors, including through the V1 platform to start a data dialogue and develop improvement plans.
The V1 Game is available in the App Store for Apple's iPhone and Apple Watch, as well for Android users in the Google Play store. Getting the advanced statistical analysis of golf data requires an in-app subscription after the first three rounds. Auto-renewing subscriptions cost $60 per year or $7 per month.
