Tiger Woods used his trusty Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter in Japan at The Challenge: Japan Skins on Monday, but before he teed off with Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Hideki Matsuyama, Woods toyed around with a fascinating new putter design from TaylorMade Golf.
The Golf Channel Tiger Tracker was overseas to watch the match at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club and found Woods on the putting green using what appears to be an experimental shape.

The TaylorMade design is an Anser-style head with the word Truss printed on the cavity behind the face. There's a piece of medal connecting the heel portion of the head, located behind the hosel, directly to the hosel. That's similar in nature to how a tress works on a house, so that would explain the name.

The idea could be the "truss" piece could prevent twisting at impact, and the move in center of gravity could be meaningful, too.
Of course, Woods was using it to likely get and give some feedback to the TaylorMade team. And why not try it on the practice green before a worldwide exhibition when all cameras are on you, the most famous player in the world in a foursome of global superstars?
Whether the Truss winds up on shelves and in pro shops is a whole other question entirely, but the concept of it is intriguing.
