If you’re new to head-to-head matchups betting in golf, sportsbooks give bettors a variety of one-on-one or group matchups, pitting players against each other in a single round or for an entire tournament. Of course, before the tournament, we’re looking at either first-round wagers or whole-tournament wagers. If only one of the players makes the cut (there’s no cut this week), then that player is the winner by default, assuming they finish.

This week, we have the PGA Championship. It feels like a cold version of Memorial, with nasty rough, not much pop in the air because of the cool weather and exacting conditions. The ball has to be put in play or variable lies will determine a player’s fate. The flat greens and poa annua grass should neutralize putting to a degree, meaning the ballstrikers are probably our best bets.
Webb Simpson (+135) over Xander Schauffele: Our model has Webb slightly ahead of Xander in a matchup, so this price seems like a great value despite Xander’s great play of late and excellent major record. It’s a little bit of a flier for a great number.
Mark Hubbard (+140) over Bud Cauley: Hubbs has been solid in the restart, playing better than Cauley. I like Cauley a lot of weeks, but this matchup seems in our favor.
Adam Scott (+105) over Tommy Fleetwood: I have a pro-Adam Scott bias, and I love him getting a little juice over Fleetwood, who hasn’t played much in the restart (albeit more than Scott).[/s2If]
