Why does Tiger Woods have athletic tape only around his middle finger on his right hand?

If you're a Tiger Woods fan, or even just a golf fan in general, you've no doubt noticed the 15-time major champion always has a wrap of tape around his middle finger on his right hand. He doesn't have tape wrapped anywhere else on his hand, so fans have long wondered what's the point of the tape.

In a new video segment with Golf TV, Woods' caddie Joe LaCava asks his boss some questions from fans, including why Woods has that single finger partially wrapped in tape.

Woods' answer is one part practical and one part philosophical.

"My dad always believed that there's five fingers that control the club: the bottom three on the left hand and the middle two on the right," Woods started.

"For some reason, those five fingers just get trashed when I practice a lot. Because I have a glove on my left hand, my right hand is exposed. And my middle (right) finger, I developed a callous that's really big, and it splits and it bleeds."

So, Woods is just trying to prevent pussing and bleeding out of his middle right finger when he's playing golf -- hence the long-standing practice of a wrap of athletic tape.
