Brooke Henderson withdrew from the US Women's Open at Shoal Creek in Alabama on Friday, citing personal reasons and a need to return home to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to be with her family.
Henderson shot a first-round 73 on Thursday, leaving her six shots off the lead.

Henderson finished her first round late in the day on Thursday, concluding around 8 p.m. Eastern time. She officially withdrew first thing on Friday morning. She returned to the course early Friday to get her personal belongings at Shoal Creek before heading to the airport to go home.
In her tweets announcing her withdrawal, Henderson expressed gratitude for the team who made first-round play at Shoal Creek a possibility given the torrential rain from sub-tropical storm Alberto. She also said she's looking forward to competing in the 2019 US Women's Open at Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina, which will be played May 30 - June 2.
The 20-year-old Canadian is already a major champion, having won the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in 2016.
