Ping expands Sigma G line with two new mallet shapes

Earlier in 2017, Ping came out with its Sigma G line of putters, banking on using materials often found in performance athletic footwear to help golfers roll in more putts. The line was born with an incredible 16 different head choices. There was something for everyone -- or so we thought.

Now the company is adding a pair of new heads to the line with mallet designs they hope will capture the eye of more players.

The Sigma G line is expanding to add the Craz-E mallet and the Tyne H mallet.

The Craz-E has been around for a while, being in the bag for three major wins. It sports a ball-width center sight line, while the head has significant heel-toe and back weighting to achieve a high MOI for a straight stroke.

The Tyne H is different from the original Tyne by utilizing an Anser-style hosel to fit a slight-arc stroke with some offset. A white top-rail sight line set on a Black Nickel finish offers contrast.

Building on Ping's True Roll insert technology, Sigma G putters have a multi-piece face insert which utilizes Pebax elastomer, a material commonly used in the soles of athletic shoes for its elasticity properties. It's a lightweight, high-energy return compound that offers a soft feel. Those weight savings can be put into other places, improving MOI.

The True Roll insert, milled from 6061 aerospace-grade aluminum, covers the entire face and has a pattern which varies in depth and pitch to properly improve control on putts of all lengths.

The new Sigma G putters are available with one of two proprietary Ping Pistol tapered grips are offered: the midsize, flat front and tapered PP60, and the oversize and more-rounded PP62.

The Ping Sigma G Craz-E putter and Tyne H putter will both retail for $215 each. Adjustable-length shafts are available for $35 more.
