Dustin Johnson re-ups with TaylorMade Golf for equipment

Dustin Johnson is sticking with TaylorMade Golf, just as they stuck with him through his personal problems in 2014.

Johnson has re-signed with the equipment maker, continuing to play their clubs through the bag and their ball, the company announced Wednesday.

No mention was made in the announcement of the status of Johnson's apparel deal with adidas. The parent company of TaylorMade, Ashworth and Adams Golf, adidas is currently advanced in the process of selling TaylorMade and potentially the other brands to a new buyer.

The company also made public that world No. 1 Jason Day has re-signed with the company on an equipment deal. Nike will soon announce a deal with Day for apparel.

There are rumors that Johnson, too, will sign with Nike for an apparel deal, but there is no confirmation of that deal. Earlier in the year, the rumor mill floated the idea of Johnson signing a head-to-toe and through-the-bag deal with Nike, but that prospect became impossible when Nike announced its plans to exit making hard golf goods, including clubs, balls and bags. Johnson had also been rumored to be looking at PXG for a deal.

The rumors aren't relevant now.

When Johnson took a leave of absence in 2014 to address personal problems, speculation mounted that Johnson was serving a PGA Tour-mandated suspension over drug use. TaylorMade-adidas Golf didn't waver in their support for Johnson as a player or person, and that very well could have weighed significantly in his decision.
