Club professional John Dal Corobbo could win Senior PGA Championship

While Rocco Mediate and two-time defending champion Colin Montgomerie are set for a final-round duel in the last pairing on Sunday at the Senior PGA Championship, club professional John Dal Corobbo has plans on spoiling the party.

Dal Corobbo is an assistant professional at Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis, Ind. -- you know, the golf course with four holes that are routed through the infield at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500. He got into the tournament by winning last October's Senior PGA National Championship.

The 51-year-old Dal Corobbo is at 11-under 202 and three shots behind the 54-hole leader Mediate, who is in search of his first senior major title.

Dal Corobbo believes he can win.

"I think that, internally, we all believe that if we control ourselves and do the things that we do, we should be able to play at that level," he said Saturday.

Now, as he said after this third round at Harbor Shores in Michigan, Dal Corobbo has to finish one more "hot lap" to do something unprecedented in a championship dating back to its debut in 1937 at Augusta National Golf Club. On Sunday, he'll sport a look that'll remind him to keep the pedal to the metal.

"I got to wear a pretty cool shirt tomorrow," he said. "I get to wear the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500."
