On the eve of the British Open, it may be time to revisit your picks based on the weather forecast.
Benign conditions are expected on Thursday during Round 1 at the Old Course, but the following two days will be when St. Andrews shows its teeth to the field. After heavy rains fall on Thursday night, the course should be softened for Friday morning. However, a very windy day is expected for Round 2, with a steady breeze around 20 mph and gusts of over 40 mph. That means the better part of the draw will be going off late on Thursday and earlier on Friday, since they'll have the likely benefit of a slower course.
For the third round, the weather will be the worst of the week, with gusts expected to top 50 mph and a stronger constant wind than Friday. Obviously players that handle the wind well and survive the Friday gusts will be in best shape to win the championship.
The weather improves for Sunday, with a minimal breeze and partly cloudy conditions.
Arrange your lineups and picks accordingly.
