The golf ball travels further in Scotland, but Rory McIlroy's drive on the par-4 13th hole in the opening round of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open was still incredible.

The Ulsterman drove the green, 436 yards away, with an astounding tee shot.

Ultimately, McIlroy made birdie on the hole en route to 7-under 64 in the first round that has him near the top of the leaderboard at host Royal Aberdeen.

McIlroy joked about the drive after the round saying he later told Ian Poulter, in the group ahead, that he used a 3-wood, not a driver, for the monster thump that, as Yahoo Sports mentions, is 55 yards longer than his prior deepest drive of 2014.
