Tiger Woods testing new Nike Covert VR_S driver at Muirfield

Muirfield is so burnt out that Tiger Woods will rarely, if ever, need driver this week at the 2013 Open Championship.

Nevertheless, Woods was spotted on Monday trying out a new driver -- if not for this week, then beyond and down the stretch of the season.

Woods was practicing with the Nike Golf Covert VR_S driver in Scotland. He has been using the 3- and 5-wood from the line since earlier in the year, but has remained with his VR Tour driver. Now it appears he may be ready to swap out his driver as well for the club he recommends in a Dick's Sporting Goods ad he starred in earlier in the year.

In the past, Nike Golf officials have said Woods likes to stick with equipment that works for him, leading him to lag behind fellow staffers in making an equipment change.

As of now, here's what Woods has been using since his fourth win of 2013 at The Players Championship.

Driver: Nike VR Tour (Mitsubishi Diamana White Board 63x), 8.5 degrees
3-Wood: Nike VR_S Covert, 15 degrees
5-wood: Nike VR_S Covert, 19 degrees
Irons (3-PW): Nike VR Pro Blade
Wedges: Nike VR Pro (56, 60 degrees)
Putter: Nike Method 001
Ball: Nike One Tour D
