Bubba Watson didn't need any help in making himself look bad on Sunday at the Travelers Championship, but he reportedly went out of his way to try to prevent piling on him.
After Watson closed at TPC River Highlands, he spoke with the media about the tee shot on the par-3 16th that found the water and led to a triple-bogey 6 that cost him a second win in the Hartford-area tournament.
According to Neil Ostrout from the Journal Inquirer, Watson told a reporter from PGATour.com after a one-on-one session, "Don't try to make me look bad!...You always do." (The tweet says PGA.com, but they do not have an on-site staffer covering the tournament.)
Watson was referring to how he reacted toward caddie Ted Scott after hitting the water-bound shot. He chided Scott for the club selection. Then, after Watson air-mailed the green with his third shot from the drop zone, he questioned his caddie's distance calculation. Both conversations were picked up by CBS Sports microphones.
