Sims shoots record 59 on eGolf Pro Tour

A 59 had never been recorded for 18 holes on the eGolf Pro Tour until Thursday, when Michael Sims of Bermuda did it in the second round of The Southern Open.

Sims shot 12-under 59 at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C., jumping into second place behind Drew Weaver at 12 under par.

The Bermuda native birdied the first eight holes in his round and nine of his first 10. Down the stretch, Sims birdied Nos. 15-17 to get to 12 under. At the last hole, Sims made par, thinking he had shot 60.

"I left it short for birdie on 18, thinking I wound up at 60," he said. "Then I remembered it was a par 71 and that I had actually shot 59."

Sims' 59 beat his best round of the year by six shots and set the record low round on the tour by a shot. Dustin Bray shot 60 in the first round of the 2009 Walnut Creek Open.
