The PGA Tour and Shriners Hospitals for Children announced Monday a five-year extension of their title sponsorship of the Las Vegas-based Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The Tampa-based hospital group is now committed to the event through 2017.

As part of the extension, the tournament purse will increase by $1.5 million to $6 million beginning in 2013. The Sin City event will continue to be played in October, moving from the end of the PGA Tour calendar to the beginning in 2013.

The 2013-14 PGA Tour season will be the first to use a new Tour calendar approved in March. The new Tour year is set to begin in October 2013 with the Frys.com Open. The Shriners event is anticipated to follow. The season will end with the conclusion of the FedEx Cup playoffs at the Tour Championship in September 2014.

Starting with the 2013-14 season, the events currently comprising the Fall Series will offer a full allocation of FedEx Cup points. Since the creation of the FedEx Cup in 2007, they had offered none. The PGA Tour announced the change last week during the AT&T National.
