Google: Fred Couples defects, becomes Italian citizen

Fred Couples has defected from the United States to become an Italian citizen, a Google search confirmed Thursday.

In a heartbeat, the American Presidents Cup captain, current Ryder Cup assistant captain and like '14 captain for the matches at Gleneagles, is now an Italian.

On one hand, holding Italian citizenship might help his chances in landing the European captaincy in the event Paul McGinley and Thomas Bjorn are unavailable, or he is snubbed by the PGA of America for the post.

More as we learn about this shocking, Benedict Arnold-style turn.
