Nike is about to release a new pair of shoes with grass on the upper. Well, artificial grass, but still.
The Swoosh has unveiled their Nike Air Max 1 Golf Grass edition, and the shoe is pretty remarkable. The upper has an artificial turf-like upper, complete with camouflaged green laces. The Swoosh logo is on the sides of the shoes is in contrasting white. The inner lining is a matching green to the artificial turf on the upper.
In the white midsole, Zoom Air technology sits. Meanwhile, the gum-rubber outsole has traction elements that could make it feasible to play golf. Realistically, though, you'd never play golf wearing these. Not because you wouldn't be able to tell your feet apart from the rough but because golf shoes are already a pain to keep clean. No need to mess up sneakers.
Nike hasn't indicated a price on the release yet, as the images were released by a Twitter account dedicated to sharing Nike shoe release images before they hit Nike's apps and website. It's reasonable to expect these shoes to run in the $130-$150 range, based on similar variants on the popular Air Max 1.
Remember back in the day when Airwalk put out shoes with tennis-ball fuzz on them? Those things were awesome.
