The 2018 WGC-HSBC Champions offers 550 FedEx Cup points to the winner of the event, which is 50 points more than the typical FedEx Cup points earned for most PGA Tour wins. The PGA Tour's FedEx Cup points distribution chart indicates players earn more points in World Golf Championships events, majors and The Players compared to normal regular-season events.
Every player who qualifies for the event and hits the first tee shot is paid this week earns FedEx Cup points, which are distributed to players who make the 36-hole cut. Since this is a no-cut event, every players earns FedEx Cup points. Players who aren't PGA Tour members don't earn points toward the official FedEx Cup points list, but they do earn non-member FedEx Cup points. If a player earns enough non-member FedEx Cup points to have qualified for the playoffs at the end of the regular season, they earn PGA Tour membership for the next season.
The WGC-HSBC Champions field is headed by Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Day and most of the current top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
The event is played this year at Sheshan International Golf Club in China.
