The Vic Open has become one of pro golf's more progressive events in recent years, hosting the open and women's editions of the tournaments at the same facility, at the same time, for the same purse.

The experiment has paid off. Beginning with a total AUD 300,000 purse in 2013, the Vic Opens have continued to grow in attention and popularity. Now, in 2019, the purse for both events will increase to AUD 1.5 million for both men and women. Since moving the events to 13th Beach Golf Links in 2013, the purse has jumped tenfold.

The Victoria state government backs the event, and they'll guarantee this level of purse for the next four years.

“This prize money boost ensures the Vic Open remains an important pathway for local up and coming champions and raises its status on the world stage, cementing Victoria’s reputation as a golfing powerhouse,” said Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews.

The women's Vic Open is co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour, and it will be the richest purse on that tour that's not co-sanctioned with the LPGA.
