Tiger Woods' 2018 schedule has taken shape after coming back to competitive golf and the PGA Tour after a 301-day absence, returning at the Hero World Challenge in 2017. So, when will Tiger Woods play in 2018? When will he come back to the PGA Tour officially?
On Jan. 4, 2018, Tiger Woods committed to starts at the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, played Jan. 26-29, and the 2018 Genesis Open, formerly the Northern Trust Open, at Riviera Country Club. Woods' tournament-running company, TGR Live, now runs the old Los Angeles Open. Woods' back looked healthy after undergoing spinal fusion surgery in April 2017, and he appears ready to resume a somewhat normal schedule in 2018 that, according to Woods, will be built around training and preparing for the four major championships.
It would seem unlikely Tiger Woods' 2018 schedule would include playing in overseas events leading into the Masters, particularly since he may have exacerbated his back problem when he withdrew from the 2017 Omega Dubai Desert Classic in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, after a first-round 77 which saw him uncomfortable and in visible pain throughout.
Woods would likely look to play in his hometown The Honda Classic, which is the week after the Genesis Open, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which he has won eight times in his career. Woods was ineligible to compete in the WGC-Mexico Championship or the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, though it doesn't seem like qualifying for those events are among his goals since he turned 42 in December. Woods added the Valspar Championship ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, making his first start in Tampa at Innisbrook since 1996, before this event existed.
In May, Woods has committed to the Wells Fargo Championship and The Players Championship.
Woods has also added his own The National in the Washington, D.C., area.
Woods is exempt in the Masters, the U.S. Open, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship. He's also in The Players Championship as the 2013 winner.
However, Tiger Woods' 2018 schedule is also dependent upon his health and the progress he continues to make in improving his fitness and stamina, as well barring some kind of unforeseen setback.
