2017 PGA Championship purse, winner’s share, prize money payout for major at Quail Hollow

The 2017 PGA Championship purse is set for $10.5 million, with the winner's share coming in at $1,890,000 -- the standard 18 percent payout according to the PGA Tour's prize money distribution chart.

The PGA Championship prize money payout is based on the number of players who make the cut. The PGA of America's major, formerly known as Glory's Last Shot, cuts after 36 holes to the top 70 players and ties.

Every player who finishes solo 23rd or better will make at least $100,000, which is a great paycheck. If more than 70 players make the cut, players will earn in less than $100 increments from 70th place prize money, which is $19,600.

Every player who competes is paid for playing. For that reason, the PGA of America also doesn't pay exactly according to the PGA Tour purse distribution. Every player who turns in a 36-hole scorecard earns $3,000. Also any player who makes the cut but has to withdraw in the final two rounds also gets $3,000.

The $10,500,000 purse is the third-highest among the four majors, with the US Open at $12 million, Masters at $11 million and British Open Championship at $10.25 million. However, the Wanamaker trophy is the biggest in major championship golf.

The PGA Championship field is headed by defending champion Jimmy Walker, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and more.

The event is played this year at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.
