2017 US Senior Open Thursday’s first round: Leaderboard, featured groups, tee times, TV, pin placements

The 2017 US Senior Open begins on Thursday (June 29) with the first round from Salem Country Club just outside of Boston, Mass. The first round begins right at 7 a.m. Eastern time, with players teeing off two tees on the first-time tournament host.

Gene Sauers is defending champion in a field headlines by Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer and Miguel Angel Jimenez, all vying for the $720,000 first-place prize from the $4 million prize pool.

US Senior Open leaderboard

The 2017 US Senior Open leaderboard is expected to feature a lot of star power, though John Daly and Steve Stricker have pulled out of the tournament with injuries. (The USGA has the live leaderboard.)

Tee times and featured groups

A starting field of 156 players teed off in threesomes on Thursday at Salem Country Club, with the 2017 US Senior Open Thursday tee times running from 7 a.m. Eastern time through the final group at 2:54 p.m. Here are some marquee groups throughout the day.

No. 1

  • 8:34 a.m. -- Joe Durant, Rocco Mediate, Loren Roberts
  • 1:58 p.m. -- Fred Couples, Jay Haas, Brandt Jobe

No. 10

  • 8:24 a.m. -- Jeff Maggert, Bernhard Langer, Kenny Perry

Pin placements

The USGA releases the firstl-round pin sheet with the pin placements (or as they say officially, hole locations) just before play gets going in the morning.

TV times and how to watch online

The US Senior Open airs on TV on Thursday on Fox Sports 1 (FS1), with coverage going from 2-7 p.m. Eastern.

On the Fox Sports Go app and on usga.org, streaming coverage beings at 2 p.m. Eastern. On the USGA website, two channels of streaming coverage begin at 10 a.m.
