The 2017 US Open Thursday pin sheet has been released for the first round, kicking off the first national championship at Erin Hills in Wisconsin. The hole locations are a big unknown this week, as it's unclear where the USGA will use on each hole, each day.

Let's look at the hole locations (pin placements) as selected by the USGA.

2017 US Open Thursday first round pin placements

Some things to note:

  • The hole location on No. 1 is accessible with a great approach shot opening the remote possibility of eagle.
  • The hole location on No. 2 will make birdies difficult with it so close to the edge of the raised green.
  • Misses to the hole location on the short par-3 ninth will invite a three-putt from the swale to the right of the target.
  • On the par-5 14th, the ball can be worked down the green complex toward the back-right hole location.
