Rory McIlroy is the highest-paid, richest golfer in the game, according to a new study of the richest athletes released by Forbes.
McIlroy ranked sixth on the list, pulling in an estimated $50 million in combined on- and off-course income in 2016. Of course, $11.44 million of that came in one fell swoop when McIlroy won the FedEx Cup and Tour Championship in a dramatic playoff in September.
The four-time major winner, through his personal representation, estimates his personal worth in the area of $400-450 million.
McIlroy was ranked behind Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Roger Federer and Kevin Durant on the list while tied with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.
Five golfers found their way in the top 100:
12. Phil Mickelson, $43.5 million
17. Tiger Woods, $37.1 million ($107,000 in on-course earnings)
21. Jordan Spieth, $34.5 million
48. Dustin Johnson, $27.6 million ($16.6 million in on-course earnings)
