Jeff Overton hasn't played on the PGA Tour but once in 2017, missing the cut in February at The Honda Classic.

On Sunday, Overton's wife, Christina, went on Twitter on his birthday to explain the harrowing, frightening circumstances surrounding his absence from the PGA Tour.

Following the Honda, Overton had chosen to take off a few months to deal with a herniated disc, ultimately choosing to have a minimally invasive surgery to improve his discomfort. Unfortunately, in the procedure Overton contracted a life-threatening spinal infection which he has battled for months. Overton spent more than a month in a hospital and a rehab center recovering, dealing with excruciating pain, lots of medicine and IVs.

Hopefully Overton can not only make a complete recovery but, in due time, make a return to the PGA Tour. Before missing the cut at PGA National, his last PGA Tour start at the RBC Canadian Open in July 2016 ended in withdrawing.
