Rory McIlroy played golf with President Donald Trump on Sunday at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, Fla. That's according to McIlroy himself, who told No Laying Up that he teed it up with the 45th President after getting the call late on Saturday.
McIlroy told No Laying Up that he rode all 18 holes in a cart, playing with Trump, Nick Cullen from International Sports Management and Trump's friend Rich Levine.
In fact, the four-time major winner was impressed with Trump's ability, particularly given that Trump is 70 years old.
However, Trump and his White House originally demurred Sunday on the President's golf plans. Trump was also to be interviewing candidates to replace General Michael Flynn, who resigned as Trump's National Security Adviser over concerns of Flynn's ties to Russia and Flynn lying to Vice-President Mike Pence about his pre-inauguration conversation with a Russian diplomat.
Then the White House changed their mind, issuing a statement acknowledging POTUS did indeed play a full round of golf.
"As stated yesterday the President played golf. He intended to play a few holes but decided to play longer. He also had a full day of meetings, calls and interviews for the new NSA, which he is continuing today before returning to Washington, D.C. Tonight (sic)."
