Ariya Jutanugarn withdrew from the 2016 women's Olympic golf tournament on Friday, citing a left knee injury.
The four-time winner this season, including in the Ricoh Women's British Open for her first major title, was 12 over through 13 holes when she pulled out of the event in Rio.
"Very disappointed, because it's Olympics, and I tell my caddie, I want to finish ... four days," Jutanugarn said. "I don't care how many over I'm going to be, but I'm thinking about my career."
The Thai first experienced the injury late in the second round on Thursday, though it began to hurt after thhe round.
"After the round, I started feeling pain," she said. "I feel a little bit tight, like second round, like almost last three holes, but I finish okay. After that, I rest and I start to hit the ball after I play yesterday, and then I hurt, so I stop. I went to putt and I can't bend ... down, like a sharp pain just happened."
Jutanugarn received medical attention and treatment, and she was ready to go on Friday. However, during her warm-up, it was clear that things weren't right. There's no immediate timetable for Jutanugarn's return to competition.
