St. Andrews Links Trust will now handle commercial Old Course tee times

If you're looking to make a trip to the Home of Golf and get a tee time on the Old Course at St. Andrews, things are changing a bit.

Starting after the 2017 season, the St. Andrews Links Trust will handle commercial bookings for the Old Course, ending a 20-year relationship farming out the management of those times with a firm called The Old Course Experience. According to The Courier in the U.K., this change does not impact the general lottery for times or preference given to locals for tee times.

The change will let the Links Trust work directly with travel companies to dole out these times. Hypothetically, this should give the average golfer a better chance of getting on the Old Course, cutting out a middleman in the process. The traveling golfer should also pay less to play the Old Course as part of this new arrangement.
