PREVIEW: Tour Edge Exotics EX9 hybrid

Tour Edge Golf has introduced its new Exotics EX9 hybrid, which employs much of the same technology found in its new fairway woods.

Creating the ultimate ball speed generator, the Power Grid has been reengineered deeper and much more narrow to increase the spring-effect across all areas of the face. Notches along the back edge of the Power Grid provide thinner spots specifically designed to increase rebound at impact leading to faster ball speeds.

The EX9's steel cup face is laser-bonded to the steel body. The face, as has become standard in the marketplace, has varying thickness throughout, moving weight toward the edges for better moment of inertia and more forgiveness.

The company's SlipStream sole, which features metal waves of varying shapes in the middle of the sole, has been refined and is featured in the hybrids, like with the fairway woods. The waves are now shorter and don't cover as much surface area on the sole, with the idea of limiting turf interaction while still offering the benefit of added swing speed. The sole has some added weight to it, lowering the center of gravity with the aim of helping players launch the ball higher from any lie.

The Power Grid pocket, which moves at impact to give a spring-like effect to the ball, is cut deeper vertically but narrower horizontally. Notches along the back edge of the pocket are placed strategically to improve face rebound at impact.

The EX9 hybrid comes standard with UST Mamiya Recoil shafts, with four different models to pick from, all lightweight with the intent of increasing swing speed.

The EX9 hybrid will be available on Nov. 15 in 17-, 19-, 22-, 25- and 28-degree models for a MSRP of $160 each.
