How many birdies do you make in a round? How about in a year? If you're a good player, you might make a few per round, and even the most avid golfer might play no more than 50 rounds in a year. That's 100 birdies.

Well, Englishman Alex Sandeman nearly made that many birdies in half a day.

Sandeman challenged the Guinness World Record for the most birdies make in 12 hours. The prior mark was 57, which still seemed like a lot, but had eclipsed his prior world record of 54, which he achieved in 2010. Sandeman returned to the Country Club at Sandy Lane in Barbados, where he set his original mark, to try to regain his world record and raise money for the Barbados Children's Trust.

Sandeman started his quest at 6:07 a.m., aiming to play 11 rounds, or 198 holes, of golf. That works out to 65 minutes per round. He made a disappointing (at least relative to his chances) four birdies in the opening round. Then nine. Then 11. In the end, Sandeman made 93 birdies, and, in his 11th and final round, made nine birdies and two eagles to shoot 58.

Not only did Sandeman get is world record back, but he also raised $150,000 for charity.
